Legal Assistant Position Summary
This Legal Assistant position is responsible for ensuring smooth processing and effective case management in the Litigations-Evictions department by providing legal clerical and processing support. They must communicate cross-functionally with clients, courts, and attorneys in a timely and professional manner.
Legal Assistant Job Responsibilities
- Draft and prepare legal documents for court filing, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Effectively manage electronic filing of legal documents through state and federal court systems, ensuring timely and error-free submissions in accordance with court requirements.
- Service as a key point of contact for clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors; responding promptly to inquiries via email, phone, and voicemail.
- Provide clear, accurate updates on case status and escalate complex matters as needed to achieve satisfactory outcomes for clients.
- Serve as a liaison for process servers to coordinate services, monitor performance, and identify trends to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and ensure the timely progression of cases through the legal process, including eviction and related proceedings.
- Perform data entry, maintain case management systems, and ensure all documentation adheres to internal standard operating procedures and external regulatory requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Required Qualifications And Skills
- A high school diploma required; an associate's degree or higher preferred.
- One to three years of legal assistant or paralegal experience required; four or more years preferred.
- Prior experience in default servicing, creditors' rights, or real estate law (plaintiff representation) preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of Michigan court procedures and filing requirements.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, in-office position, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., averaging 40 hours per week. Overtime hours may become available and required based on business needs.
