About the role
The Legal Assistant role at Frank S. Buck, P.C. is pivotal in maintaining the firm's high standard of client service and legal success. Key to managing approximately 50–60 personal injury cases, this role supports the firm's mission of personalized, effective legal advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Case Management: Manage a high-volume caseload of approximately 50–60 personal injury cases from intake to settlement.
- Litigation Support: Draft and file complaints, prepare and answer discovery, and support cases through litigation when necessary.
- Client Communication: Consistently update and manage client expectations, providing a reliable point of contact for client concerns.
- File Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records in the case management system, ensuring all files are current.
- Demand Preparation: Prepare demand packages and negotiate settlements with insurance companies to advocate for client rights.
- Medical Records Management: Order, track, and organize medical records and bills, ensuring accurate subrogation handling.
- Collaborative Work: Collaborate with paralegals and attorneys to improve intake procedures and overall case management workflows.
Requirements
- Experience Required: At least 5 years of experience in personal injury litigation, with expertise in managing a high-volume caseload.
- Litigation Skills: Proficiency in drafting complaints, preparing discovery, and handling cases through litigation stages.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities to manage numerous cases and maintain detailed records efficiently.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to manage client interactions effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with Google Suite and willingness to learn case management software like Prevail.
- Local Requirement: Must be local to Birmingham, AL, with a strong preference for candidates from Jefferson County.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- License/Certification: No specific license/certification required, but knowledge of personal injury law is beneficial.
