About the role
The Information & Spectrum Warfare Directorate (RF), Judge Advocate Division seeks a Legal Assistant (Office Automation), DU-0986-03 in Rome, New York. The incumbent will serve as the primary Legal Assistant in the Division, directly supporting the Staff Judge Advocate.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement streamlined office management strategies and manage administrative workflows.
- Oversee internal suspense tracking and coordinate facility operations and supply inventories.
- Act as the primary liaison for internal and external communications, proactively managing the office master calendar.
- Schedule complex engagements and coordinate professional travel and conference logistics.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research to identify precedent cases and verify citations.
- Draft high-quality legal documents, client correspondence, and staff packages requiring minimal revision prior to attorney review.
- Oversee critical office compliance programs, including managing ethics training databases and monitoring public/confidential financial disclosures.
- Coordinate unit safety, security training, and inspection readiness.
- Assist in the end-to-end adjudication of Air Force claims and coordinate the onboarding of new personnel.
- Support the execution of the Legal Assistance and Preventive Law programs.
Requirements
- United States Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov, if applicable.
- At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade DU-02/GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience in law office management or high-level executive support.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize administrative workflows, manage calendars, and track suspense systems.
- Proficiency in conducting targeted legal research, identifying precedent cases, and drafting precise legal documents or correspondence requiring minimal attorney revision.
- Strong organizational skills to oversee critical compliance programs, including tracking ethics training databases, reviewing financial disclosures, and coordinating unit safety or inspection readiness.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a track record of building successful working relationships and resolving problems across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
