Job Overview

Assisting attorneys with research, drafting legal documents, case management, client support and engagement.

Research includes legal research of current statutes and case law. Drafting of petitions, motions, proposed orders, affidavits, memorandums. Management of filing documents with courts, including e-filing and filing through mail or in person. Maintenance of case files, ensuring the attorneys are up to date with all relevant information. Client communications include consultation assistance, interviews, assistance in document execution, and general communications.

Office of General Counsel with conservatorship requests, litigation holds, rules and legislation, and records requests. Division of Administrative Appeals with the DDA Abuse Registry Advisory Group, involuntary disenrollments, rules and legislation, Reportable Events Management and Abuse Registry placement, and provider appeals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conservatorship cases- obtain consents and declarations draft pleadings, file pleadings, serve and file summons, correspond with clerks and parties regarding scheduling hearings, interviews with attorneys for hearing prep, correspond with clerks to obtain letters of conservatorship, notify parties of all filings and dates, conservatorship tracking, maintaining H: Drive file and SharePoint file, close all cases.
  • Contested Cases-Case tracking, notifications regarding appeals, Confirmation of perp contact information, Acknowledgment letters of appeals, co-administrator for DAA reporting system, File review assignments, Drafting and filing Notice of Charges, Filing subpoenas, Court Reporter scheduling, Drafting Abuse Registry placement memos, Correspondence with Health Facilities Commission, Draft settlements, coordinate with outside attorneys and perpetrators to obtain signed settlements, file agreed orders with settlements.
  • Absorb Registry Advisory Group-Receive and track applications, Correspondence with applicants, Acknowledgment letters and letters of incompleteness, Drafting ARAG recommendation to Commissioner, Editing meeting minutes, Creating Packet for Commissioner review, Drafting Commissioner Decision Letter, Final communications with Applicant, Drafting removal memo if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college, university, or professional school with one of the following: an Associates Degree in Paralegal or Legal Assistant studies. a Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal or Legal Assistant studies. a Paralegal Certificate; or one year of graduate level law school.
  • Experience equivalent to 3-5 years working as a paralegal with at least 1 year paralegal experience working in the State of Tennessee. Prior paralegal experience working with Tennessee conservatorships is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
