About the role

The position is open to well-qualified surplus/displaced Federal employees (CTAP/ICTAP) in the local area and all current/former Federal employees in permanent competitive service positions (status candidates).

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the primary support specialist for managing incoming and outgoing discovery in complex criminal and/or civil matters, such as: coordinating with agency partners to collect materials; reviewing incoming materials to assess responsiveness; organizing complex and voluminous materials for efficient review by the case team; preparing materials for production; and maintaining detailed indices of materials received and produced.
  • Analyzing and summarizing evidentiary materials, including witness statements and documentary records, drawing upon knowledge of the legal and factual issues in the Government's case.
  • Assisting attorneys with depositions, hearings, and trial preparations, and during live court proceedings, to include: maintaining witness lists and schedules; drafting subpoenas; assembling and managing exhibits; and operating trial presentation software in the courtroom.
  • Conducting complex legal and factual research in legal and non-legal databases in support of civil and/or criminal cases and drafting a variety of legal documents such as discovery requests and routine motions, proposed orders, and notices.

Requirements

Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.

Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

  • To be qualified at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience; Superior Academic Achievement; Graduate Education; OR a Combination of Specialized Experience and Graduate Education.
  • To be qualified at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience; Graduate Education; OR a Combination of Specialized Experience and Graduate Education.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)

The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well-qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria. You must provide proof of eligibility to receive selection priority.
