About the role

The Legal Administrative Specialist is responsible for managing an organizational segment that provides direct legal support services to the Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs). The incumbent also accomplishes administrative assignments as required by the Criminal Chief to ensure effective and efficient services throughout the Criminal Division. If selected, you will join a well-respected team providing legal administrative support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Miami, Florida, focusing on manpower planning and litigative support.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate current office systems on the legal support side and propose new or alternative procedures to improve the effectiveness of work methods, utilization of manpower, use of equipment, distribution of work assignments, caseload management, changes in priorities, workflow, and systems development for use by attorneys and support staff.
  • Perform a variety of administrative work to meet the operational needs of the assigned areas.
  • Provide case management, legal research, and overall support to litigation activities of the Criminal Division.
  • Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National to apply for this position.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing three of the following four duties:

  • Providing advice and guidance on a wide range of complex litigation support issues.
  • Assisting in case management, legal research, and overall support to litigation activities.
  • Analyzing legal and factual issues to determine data needed, methods to obtain it, or relevance of data for cases.
  • Evaluating current office systems on the legal support side to propose new or alternative procedures to improve the effectiveness of work methods, utilization of manpower, use of equipment, distribution of work assignments, caseload management, changes in priorities, workflow, or systems development for use by attorneys and support staff.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
