This position is part of a well-respected team responsible for performing litigation support tasks associated with day-to-day operation of the USAO litigation support systems.
Responsibilities
- Performing a variety of automated litigation support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop and manage exhibits, evidence, and other relevant data
- Applying basic knowledge of Federal Criminal and Civil procedures
- Creating and coordinating litigation support services (including trial preparation and presentation) in response to customer needs
- Preparing computerized trial presentation programs
- Preparing and organizing exhibits for court proceedings which involve audio/video, transcripts, documents, and visual materials
- Assisting and/or training attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous discovery applications
- Providing customer support services including troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Qualifications
GS-07
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing routine litigation support assignments such as:
- Assisting with organizing case information, including creating production logs and organizing responses
- Preparing discovery, including scanning, coding documents and creating CDs
- Providing support for court proceedings including preparing exhibits, compiling trial notebooks, and compiling witness and exhibit lists
- Verifying citations
- Preparing a variety of legal documents
- Assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence
- Editing a variety of legal documents, such as information requests, subpoenas, correspondence and memos
OR
One (1) full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a degree in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Law, Criminal Justice).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.
GS-09
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as:
- Providing technical assistance to Attorneys in facilitating the management of incoming and outgoing document discovery
- Working with client agencies to facilitate production of discovery in a timely and effective manner
- Compiling outgoing discovery in accordance with stipulations and/or court orders
- Recommending automated support methods for trials
- Assisting with trial preparation and presentations
- Assisting attorneys with automatic evidence presentation in court
OR
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.) in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
