Job Summary
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science invites applications for a 100% special faculty/lecturer position in the Fine and Performing Arts Department to begin mid-September 2026. The Lecturer in Costume Design and Technology will serve as a key faculty member in the Theatre Program, with primary responsibilities in teaching, production, and costume shop management.
Required Qualifications
- MFA in Theatre
- Expertise in Theatrical Costume Design and Construction and Make-up Design
- Record of success teaching Theatre classes at the college-level, which may include experience as an MFA candidate
- Professional theatre credits in costume design and technology
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public
Preferred Qualifications
- MFA in Costume Design
- Experience with Health & Safety protocols
- Experience with costume shop management
Job Duties
- Teaching - Maintain a typical teaching load of 30 credits per academic year, subject to department needs. Teach undergraduate courses in Costume Design and Technology, including construction, textiles, rendering, and design processes. Teach additional courses as assigned based on expertise and departmental needs, such as: Stage Make-up, Theatre in the Humanities, Theatre History, Concepts of Theatrical Design.
- Production Design and Costume Shop Management - Equivalent to 15 credits of teaching release. Serve as Costume Designer for up to three mainstage productions annually, including: Concept development and collaboration with directors and production team, Costume rendering, research, fittings, and execution, Oversight of costume budgets and schedules. Serve as Costume Shop Manager, responsible for all aspects of costume production, including: Supervising and mentoring student employees and production crews, Overseeing costume construction, alterations, and maintenance, Managing costume stock, inventory, and organization, Maintaining shop equipment and supplies, Ensuring safe working practices and compliance with health and safety standards, Coordinating wardrobe needs for all departmental productions.
Service and Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes
- Maintain health and safety protocols in classrooms, labs, and production spaces
- Engage in departmental and college activities as appropriate
- Committee service is not required unless explicitly assigned and approved by the Department Chair and Dean
Conditions of Employment
- The required start date for this position is 09/16/2026.
- To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2026.
