LECTURER – DESIGN

About the role

Edgewood University’s Fine and Performing Arts Department is seeking an instructor to teach foundational and advanced design courses in our Arts programs, particularly Graphic and Web Design majors, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will collaborate on program development to ensure alignment with the skills needed in today’s digital and AI-driven world, including transitioning courses or programs to online formats, developing community partnerships, and facilitating internship placements.

Responsibilities

• Offer undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, Web Design, and/or other design-based subjects; contribute to curriculum development in your specialty area.
• Prepare graduates for post-graduation success through professional mentorship and preparation in the Senior Seminar course.
• Maintain, manage, and grow outreach activities, including pathway agreements and internships in Design.
• Advise students and provide timely feedback on learning assessments and portfolios.
• Participate in college committee work, including assessment, and engage in full-time faculty responsibilities, such as Arts events organized by the Department.
• Communicate with department chairs and leadership both in person and via the institutional email platform.

Requirements

• MFA, doctorate, or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited institution in a discipline relevant to Graphic Design, Web Design, or a related field.
• Teaching experience.
• Demonstrated success in creating design programming and preparing students for professional development.
• Excellent grasp of foundational design practice, theories, and methodologies.
• Commitment to meeting student needs and expertise in a creative discipline.

• Excellent communication skills, flexibility, mature judgment, and a commitment to teaching in a creative, collaborative, and values-based environment focused on individual student success.
• Strong technical skills in presenting materials to students.
• Multicultural competence—the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work effectively with culturally diverse individuals.
