Lecturer, Fire and Emergency Response Administration

MSU Denver invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in the Fire and Emergency Response Administration (FERA) program. This is a 9-month contracted faculty position with the potential for summer teaching and contract renewal based on program need and budget availability. The faculty member will also serve as the Coordinator of the FERA Program, receiving adequate release time to conduct administrative duties. This is an in-person position reporting to the Department Chair of the Human Services and Counseling Department.

About the Role

The Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic activities to ensure long-term program viability, including maintenance and expansion of strategic partnerships, curriculum design and management, student success initiatives, and program marketing and communications. While the preferred start date is January 1, 2027, the University is prepared to negotiate a later start date of fall 2027 if needed.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Student Support

• Teach at least two (6 credits) classes in the FERA program in each of the Fall and Spring semesters.
• Provide faculty advising related to the FERA program, including:
  • Weekly on-campus office hours.
  • Supervision of independent study courses.
  • Implementation of recruitment strategies and retention initiatives.
  • Career and academic advising, and facilitation of internship and practicum opportunities.
  • Processing FERA program certificates for incoming students.
• Collaborate with departmental faculty to design, evaluate, and enhance curriculum offerings to meet university accreditation, national educational requirements, and industry standards.

Service

• Attend all full-time faculty and department meetings.
• Serve on the Assessment Committee and Curriculum Committee.
• Participate in other committees as assigned by the department chair.

Program Coordination

• Process FERA program certificates for incoming students.
• Enhance program visibility and opportunities for students in collaboration with CHHS Advising Services and university support.
• Identify opportunities for interprofessional education and ensure the program meets all accreditation standards and institutional policies, maintaining alignment with FESHE guidelines.
• Cultivate strategic partnerships within MSU, external fire departments/emergency services, high schools, and community colleges.
• Coordinate training exercises, nurture advisory board relationships, and secure experiential learning opportunities for students.
• Develop and execute communication strategies to promote the FERA Program, including website and email communications, marketing materials, and events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of experience in fire and emergency services.

Preferred

• Doctorate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related field.
• Certifications in the field of fire services (e.g., Executive Fire Officer, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Fire Marshal, Fire Officer, Emergency Manager).
• Demonstrated understanding of FESHE standards, fire service operations, and current trends in fire and emergency management.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 at the Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected will be set based on internal equity, education, experience, discipline, specialty, and training.
