Lecturer
Rice University’s Department of Chemistry in Houston, Texas, seeks a full-time (9-month) non-tenure-track Lecturer beginning July 1, 2027. The initial appointment is for one academic year, renewable based on performance. Qualified candidates may be considered for Rice’s Teaching Professor track.
About the role
Primary teaching duties include General Chemistry lectures, day and evening laboratory courses, and discussion sections. Additional assignments may be made according to departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty to develop course content and materials. Participation in departmental service and committees is encouraged. Optional summer-school teaching for extra compensation may be available.
Responsibilities
- Teach General Chemistry lectures, laboratories (day and evening), and discussion sections
- Develop and update course content and instructional materials in collaboration with faculty
- Mentor teaching assistants at the college/university level
- Participate in departmental service and committees as opportunities arise
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field conferred by July 1, 2027
- Previous teaching experience at the college/university level
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based teaching practices
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- A track record of teaching excellence
- Experience mentoring teaching assistants
