About the role
Stony Brook University's Department of Writing and Rhetoric (DWR) is hiring a full-time lecturer specializing in English Language Learning (ELL, ESL, ESOL, ENL) to start in August 2027.
Responsibilities
- Teach three in‑person courses per fall/spring semester: undergraduate ELLs in the Program in Academic English, graduate‑level international TA training, and first‑year writing in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric.
- Perform departmental service.
- Mentor students.
Requirements
Required: Possession of an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics at the time of application; minimum three years' experience teaching English language learners (ELLs) in a postsecondary setting, including but not limited to grammar, phonetics, and/or phonology; proficiency in prescriptive English grammer and phonetics; native or native-like fluency in English.
Preferred: Experience with group-based rubric assessment of student learning outcomes; evidence of academic service; demonstrated commitment to advancing educational access, opportunity, and inclusive excellence.
