Lecturer - AI Engine National Security & Defense
About the Role
This is a non-faculty rank, full-time, academic year (9-month) staff teaching position with a continuing appointment beginning in August 2026. The position includes opportunities for summer teaching appointments. The role focuses on teaching up to eight sections within the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program each semester and contributing to ongoing AI curriculum development. This initiative prepares the next generation of engineers with cutting-edge AI curricula, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary training to meet national and global workforce needs.
The experiential learning component involves project sponsors from the Department of War, the Intelligence Community, and closely-affiliated corporations. The position also offers the potential to develop and teach a 1-credit applied tools course under the guidance of Think AI and VIP Directors and the AI Engine Associate Director.
Responsibilities
- Teach up to eight sections within the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program each semester.
- Contribute to the development of AI curricula, including experiential learning and interdisciplinary training.
- Mentor undergraduate students in applying AI skills to real-world projects.
- Collaborate with project sponsors from the Department of War, Intelligence Community, and affiliated corporations.
- Develop and teach a 1-credit applied tools course (potential opportunity).
Requirements
- B.S. and M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- Strong background in AI, including problem formulation, computational thinking, and probabilistic thinking.
- Experience in the practice or teaching of AI foundational knowledge and skills.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate students in AI-related projects.
- Experience in military matters.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
