Learning Support Specialist II - Biological & Physical Sciences

Job Summary

The Learning Support Specialist II (LSS II) performs the duties of a professional tutor. The LSS II tutors in-person and works with students, either one-on-one or in small groups to help them attain a deeper and more substantial command of the assigned subject matter. The LSS II works with multiple students and with other tutors present, in a shared tutoring space. This role communicates with the department regarding individual student progress and needs. This position is responsible for generating reports from tutoring software and sending them to his/her supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Tutors students in introductory courses in their discipline area of expertise.
• Maintains documentation of all tutoring sessions.
• Generates department reports for tutoring and maintains documentation of department tutoring interactions.
• Provides course instructor(s) with communication/information that can be used to facilitate student learning of course content.
• Uses and implements the College’s tutoring software proficiently.
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of the course material and multiple instructional methodologies to accommodate various student learning styles.
• Attends tutor training sessions.
• Supports LSS, LSS I, Peer Tutors & Supplemental Instructional Leaders.
• Assists with technical support of tutoring software and reports.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in related field.
• One (1) year of teaching and/or tutoring experience in an educational environment desired.

Qualifications

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
