Learning Center Director (Admin II)
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success Services, the Director of the Learning Center provides strategic leadership, vision, and operational oversight for one of Fresno State’s most impactful academic support units. The Director ensures the Learning Center operates as a high-impact, data-informed student success organization that continuously expands its reach, improves student outcomes, and advances Fresno State’s strategic priorities, as well as divisional and California State University system goals for persistence, retention, timely graduation, and equity gap reduction.
The Learning Center serves as a cornerstone of the university’s student success ecosystem through an integrated model of Supplemental Instruction (SI), Tutoring, and Academic Success Coaching (ASC). These high-impact practices strengthen academic confidence, deepen course understanding, improve academic performance, increase course completion, reduce DFW rates, and support students experiencing academic difficulty, including those on academic warning or subject to academic disqualification.
Responsibilities
- Lead a complex, high-volume operation that includes professional staff, graduate assistants, and a large student employee workforce.
- Provide strategic planning, personnel leadership, fiscal stewardship, program design, and innovation.
- Develop and oversee student employee training and professional development systems.
- Collaborate cross-divisionally with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, faculty, and university leadership.
- Use data-informed decision-making to evaluate student engagement, learning outcomes, and institutional performance metrics.
- Ensure services remain responsive, equitable, and scalable through continuous improvement and innovation.
- Cultivate a culture of excellence, accountability, and high-quality academic support to drive measurable gains in student success outcomes.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to lead a comprehensive, high-impact academic support operation with multiple service modalities and large-scale student engagement.
- Experience developing, implementing, and improving academic support programs that increase student engagement and measurable learning outcomes.
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills, including recruitment, training, performance management, and professional development.
- Advanced skill in developing structured training, certification, and professional development systems for service consistency and quality.
- Ability to establish and maintain quality assurance standards, operational procedures, and service delivery models.
- Demonstrated fiscal management skills, including budget development, resource allocation, and oversight of multiple funding sources.
Education and Experience
- A master’s degree.
- Three years of progressively responsible management or supervisory experience in a student service program such as a Learning Center or tutorial program.
- Experience with program development, evaluation, and fiscal management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a comprehensive academic support or learning center at a large, diverse, public higher education institution.
- Advanced knowledge of high-impact practices in student success, including Supplemental Instruction, peer-assisted learning, academic coaching, and integrated tutoring models.
- Ability to design and scale innovative academic support initiatives that increase student engagement, utilization, and measurable learning outcomes.
- Expertise in using student success analytics, predictive indicators, and institutional data to inform strategy and improve retention and graduation outcomes.
- Ability to translate data into actionable strategies, executive-level reports, and institutional recommendations.

Pay
The anticipated salary hiring range is $102,000 - $115,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
