About the role

The Learning & Student Success Coach supports student academic achievement through the development and delivery of learning support services, academic success programming, and individualized skill-building strategies. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, and campus partners to promote effective learning techniques, academic resilience, and student persistence in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver learning support services and academic success programming.
  • Oversee the administration and interpretation of assessments to identify potential obstacles to student achievement and retention.
  • Facilitate innovative workshops and small group activities to promote academic success of new, at-risk, and enrolled students in both didactic and clinical education.
  • Provide personalized, in-person and online support services to students, including knowledge and skill development in areas such as metacognitive awareness, learning for retention, test-taking strategies, study planning, and time management.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support at-risk students, respond to faculty concerns, and communicate with faculty members and/or content experts when needed to better support a student's academic progress.
  • Adapt and reach students on innovative platforms, including developing interactive modules for deployment to students.
  • Collaborate with university support services to assist learners who may have learning challenges and help find creative solutions to help individuals overcome barriers to academic success.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education, educational psychology, health professions education, a clinical discipline, or a closely related field.
  • Three to five years of related experience in educational support, preferably in learning skills service or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience providing educational assessment and intervention strategies to diverse adult learners, preferably in health sciences or STEM education.
  • Doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Advanced clinical, educational, or health professions background (e.g., OD, Ed.D., Ph.D., Psy.D., or comparable preparation) with experience in graduate/professional student learning support, psychoeducational assessment, or academic coaching.
  • Familiarity with optometric, health sciences, or other rigorous graduate/professional education environments and associated licensure or credentialing processes.
  • Academic coaching certification (e.g., InsideTrack, CTEDU, etc.).

Qualifications

Candidates with advanced academic preparation may bring additional expertise in student learning, academic support strategies, and higher education best practices that will contribute to the continued growth and innovation of the department. While this role is primarily administrative and student-support focused, it operates within a collaborative academic setting dedicated to student success and engagement.
