About the role
The Lead Utility Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, kitchens, food & beverage venues, and equipment in accordance with Health Department standards. This position also assists management with coordinating and assisting the Utility Porter team in all aspects of the department.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, kitchens, food & beverage venues, and equipment in accordance with Health Department standards
- Clean and sanitize kitchen hoods, stoves, grills, ovens, broilers, burner tops, steamers, kettles, braisers, deep fryers, dishwasher machines, stainless steel counters, drains, etc.
- Pick up and dispose of trash and cardboard, in all kitchens and F&B venues
- Wash, clean, and polish equipment to ensure it is ready for use
- Clean entire kitchen areas including but not limited to work areas, freezers, walk-ins, walls, ceilings, hoods, fans, floors, drains, and any areas assigned by management
- Conduct various inventory counts when assigned and fill requisition as required
- Follow Hazardous Material Management Program procedures for handling and disposing of chemicals, pesticides, blood borne pathogens, etc., including using Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Protect company tools, equipment, machines, and other assets in accordance with Company policies and procedures
- Operate cleaning equipment and tools to ensure only clean and sanitary items are used in the kitchen, including operating the dish machine, pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor
- When assigned, assist with all aspects of dish washing & pot washing as well as sorting and cleaning dishes, silverware, glasses, utensils, and assorted items
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens, F&B venues, back dock, dumpster, and utility work, as well as back of the house areas
- Operate machinery such as pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, tuggers, forklifts, and mobile golf carts
- Protect Company tools, equipment, machines, or other assets in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Politely provide advice and instruction to fellows Members to enhance their performance
- Check workstations to ensure they are organized, clean, and correctly set up, and provide food safety audits as needed
- Ensure breaks and meal periods are organized efficiently and maintain schedule to ensure accurate coverage
- Communicate issues and Member violations to Stewarding leadership
- Aid in managing Member work assignments and work details when necessary
- Aid in training and onboarding new Members
- Aid in facilitating daily Stand-Up meetings
- Aid in inventories as needed
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma required
- Previous experience in stewarding preferred
- Some experience with inventory controls and systems, storeroom principles, and procurement processes are preferred
- Ability to frequently climb, stand-on and work from a ladder, while working overhead for extended periods
- Ability to complete appropriate safety training and certifications to perform work tasks
- Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments
- Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with guests, management, Members, and other outside contacts
- Must have a valid Drivers’ License and clean driving record
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills; be able to function under time constraints and deadlines with attention to detail
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include holidays, nights, and weekends
- Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment
- Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibility

- The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- The Member must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
