About the role
Help Serves as a Lead Transportation Assistant in DLA Distribution, performing freight shipment and transportation support functions through various transportation systems. Leads a team of three (3) or more employees in performing transportation duties ensuring that the work assignments of the team members are carried out. Ensures accuracy, completeness, and timely movement of material to CON US and/or OCON US customers. Secures carriers to arrange for pickup, delivery, and storage of shipments. Identifies the mode or combination of modes, types of special equipment, and services required for shipments. Advises customers of inadequacies or inaccuracies in shipping requests and related documentation.
Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policy, directives, etc.
- Maintain accuracy, completeness, and timely movement of material to CON US and/or OCON US customers.
- Secure carriers to arrange for pickup, delivery, and storage of shipments.
- Identify the mode or combination of modes, types of special equipment, and services required for shipments.
- Advise customers of inadequacies or inaccuracies in shipping requests and related documentation.
- Monitor and report on carrier compliance with contract terms, safety provisions, or other transportation programs.
- Schedule and coordinate carrier pick-up and delivery of materials.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
- Security Requirements: (Non- Critical Sensitive with Secret Access).
- Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
- Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized.
- Bargaining Unit Status: No.
- Selectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position.
- The incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.
Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.
- Education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
