Lead Thermal System Architect, Energy Products
What To Expect
The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Thermal Architecture team, you are the design lead that defines and designs the thermal systems that make Tesla Energy products like Megapack, Supercharger and Powerwall world class. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, firmware and service and requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to model and design thermal systems that are at the core of Tesla’s success. Our team is small, committed, fast moving and we believe a diverse team of motivated individuals can accomplish almost anything. We are problem solvers, team players and game changers. If this sounds like you, Tesla just might be the place to make your mark.
What You'll Do
- Own Thermal System Architecture design and product specifications for Tesla Energy Products such as Megapack, Supercharger, Powerwall and Data Center solutions, through physics-based fundamental principles analysis, modeling and system-level thinking
- Support programs through the entire life cycle including requirements development, modeling, prototype builds, test, and production
- Develop thermal models to simulate system performance of HVAC components to meet system requirements while optimizing for efficiency and cost
- Develop and execute component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements
- Create CFD models to aid mechanical design teams in component development or gain insight into system level thermal trade offs
What You'll Bring
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Fluency in the use of analytical simulation tools for thermal analysis, including Matlab/Simulink, Python and CFD software
- Experience modeling and testing thermal systems and components, examples include fans, pumps, compressors, fluid connections, heat sinks, heat exchangers
- Fundamentals in compression cycle modeling and operation
- Ability to generate and interpret simulation results and integrate recommendations into product designs
- Specification definition (performance, functional, dimensional, manufacturing)
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Passion for renewable energy
