About the role

As a dedicated resource for embedding sustainability into every aspect of our data center systems, you will develop sustainability standards for our reference designs and create methodologies to quantify their benefits. This role champions our corporate sustainability purpose by focusing on energy and water efficiency, decarbonization, and life cycle impact.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering leads across the technical loop, mechanical loop, and electrical/power to ensure multi-generational system roadmaps reflect and deliver sustainable data center designs.
  • Serve as an internal expert on sustainable data center designs, reflecting a strong understanding of current and future technologies to drive sustainability.
  • Develop sustainability standards for all system reference designs, including metrics for PUE, Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), carbon footprint, and sound levels (dB).
  • Lead efforts for quantifying benefits around sustainable data centers and Trane Technologies system architecture reference designs.
  • Develop and manage system-level Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in close partnership with our enterprise sustainable team.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to drive a roadmap for improving the sustainability performance of our solutions.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and industry forums to represent Trane Technologies’ voice on data center sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of engineering experience, with strong focus on sustainable designs across mission critical facilities and data centers.
  • Experience in sustainable building design, energy modeling, or life cycle assessment.
  • Deep knowledge of data center sustainability metrics (PUE, WUE, CUE).
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and green building certifications.
  • Passion for driving sustainability and a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment serving mission critical customers.

Skills

  • Engineering background in data center/high-tech design is required.
  • Experience with PLC controls is a plus.
  • Experience with onsite power generation and/or backup power distribution is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HVAC products, components, and systems is desired.
  • Strong thermal/fluid energy and/or controls background is a plus.
  • Strong technical skills with a natural curiosity and enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills.
  • Technically creative yet grounded in real world feasibility.
  • Able to perform thorough and objective analysis.
  • Able to collaborate with and influence others.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Willing and able to transfer knowledge to other groups.
  • Good stand-up skills in front of customers and the field sales force.

Pay

Annual base salary range: $95,700.00 - $199,300.00. This is a salaried position and is incentive eligible. The actual compensation will depend on elements such as seniority, merit, geographic location, education, experience, travel requirements, and union designation.
