About the role
Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure Division is seeking a Lead Test Engineering to join our team in Raleigh, NC. Relocation assistance is available within the US to Raleigh, NC. This role follows a hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). In-office presence is required based on business and work needs. Remote flexibility is provided to support productivity, but employees should expect to be on-site as necessary to meet team and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Supports design testing, lab setup, and design validation for a wide range of energy storage power conversion and UPS products.
- Executes and creates test plans for the commissioning and engineering testing of energy transition products in the engineering lab.
- Contributes to the overall safety and functioning of engineering labs at Eaton Raleigh.
- Takes ownership of validation and compliance testing for projects.
- Participates in global design reviews and works with compliance team to create test procedures.
- Prepares test facilities and required instrumentation to execute test plans.
- Led technician resources to execute test plans.
- Analyzes test data for determination of validity and product compliance to specifications.
- Prepares test data materials for submittal to safety agencies.
- Formally documents product design issues & specification non-conformances along with subsequent corrective action taken; provides feedback to project teams on test activities, open issues, and project schedule.
- Leads test technicians, providing guidance and support to overcome progress barriers.
- Understand and implement safety procedures and requirements in High Power test cell, as instituted by Eaton EHS and local representatives.
- Performs tests on the power converters (greater than 250kW) and system level controllers.
- Implements, tests, and troubleshoots high level controls and system interactions.
- Supports and performs minimum viable product testing and demonstrations in the lab or at customer sites.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams within US and in EMEA and APAC.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical OR Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of six (6) years industry work experience in electrical product development.
- Master's Degree with a minimum of five (5) years work experience in electrical product development.
- Proven experience with high power electrical equipment testing.
- Proven experience of safety requirements in high power electrical lab test environment.
- Hands-on working experience of typical power electronics measuring systems and applications such as oscilloscopes, power meters, surge testers, environmental chambers and data acquisition equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of ten (10) years industry work experience in electrical power systems.
- Familiarity with ISO17025 accreditation.
- Experience working with accreditation NRTL agencies (like UL, INTERTEK, TUV) with electrical focus or, leading a company regulatory compliance program for power electronics.
- Experience with power utility and/or with high power equipment at 480Vac 15KVA.
- Knowledge of UPS, Power Conversion Equipment, and electrical distribution equipment safety and legal requirements.
Skills
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Working in a cross-functional team within US and in EMEA and APAC.
- Experience high power testing of electrical systems.
- Ability to understand the needs of the business and ability to make wise decisions to maintain customer satisfaction and Eaton quality and profitability.
- Ability to ensure ethical and quality standards and for regulatory compliance for products being manufactured in Eaton factories.
- Ability to demonstrate process management and figure out processes necessary to get things done.
- Experience working with contractors and suppliers for test facilities, including commissioning and implementation of equipment.
- Ability to evaluate safety and risks associated with electrical products and electrical hazards.
