About the role

The Lead Maintenance Technician for the Salt Lake City facility will help maintain the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of facility infrastructure, utilities, and manufacturing equipment. This hands-on individual contributor will independently conduct inspections, monitor the Building Management System (BMS), perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex equipment and automation issues, and execute or coordinate timely corrective actions. Working closely with Facilities, Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality Assurance, and external service providers, the Lead Maintenance Technician will support equipment availability and GMP-compliant operations while documenting maintenance activities, deviations, and CAPAs.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform daily inspections and routine checks of facility infrastructure, utility systems, and manufacturing equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Monitor the Building Management System (BMS), interpret alarms and trends, assess operating conditions, and make timely day-to-day decisions within established procedures to maintain safe and optimal operations.
  • Execute preventive maintenance and independently troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, utility, and automated manufacturing system issues.
  • Determine and carry out appropriate corrective actions, document completed work and escalate matters requiring additional technical or quality review to support continuous system availability.
  • Work independently, prioritize assigned work, and exercise sound judgment in making operational decisions within the scope of training, procedures, and role authority, while collaborating with Operations, Engineering, Process Development, Manufacturing Sciences and Technology (MSAT), Quality Assurance, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Coordinate directly with external vendors and contractors regarding service agreements and maintenance needs, and support warehouse and material activities to help ensure production materials are available on schedule.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), applicable global regulatory and environmental requirements, and quality expectations for equipment repair activities.
  • Create, document, and route deviations and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) through the AQEM workflow, coordinating with Engineering and Quality Assurance to support investigation, action assignment, follow-up, and timely closure.
  • Work shift and participate in a shared on-call rotation with other members of the Facilities team. During assigned on-call coverage, respond to calls and alarms, independently evaluate urgent facility or equipment issues, take appropriate initial action, and coordinate additional support or escalation as needed.
  • The work schedule may be modified or extended due to production needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical apprenticeship/certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant facilities experience with strong experience in HVAC systems and solid working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general building trades/construction methods.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a GMP environment or related pharmaceutical/biotechnology manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Requires skills and experience in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and/or utility systems.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably BMRAM.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to contribute to a team where employees have a shared purpose and vision; foster a "One Denali" environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and build trustful and effective relationships.
  • Proficient oral presentation and written communication skills.
