About the Role

QinetiQ US is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to provide technical and programmatic support to a Department of War client in Chantilly, VA. The ideal candidate will offer leadership and guidance through expertise in model-based systems engineering to support Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) programs. This role serves as the lead systems engineer within a mission engineering and modeling and simulation team, advising and assisting Program Managers and SETAs on the development, design, and implementation of complex RDT&E projects across multiple domains (Air, Land, Space, and Cyber). The engineer will ensure mission engineering and systems engineering best practices are applied across the entire project portfolio and coordinate with stakeholders across the Department of War, including the Under Secretary of War (Research & Engineering), CAPE, Joint Service Branches (AF, Army, USMC, Navy), and DARPA.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure mission engineering and systems engineering best practices are utilized across the organization.
  • Make recommendations to Program Managers and SETAs and develop, design, and configure systems for complex projects.
  • Participate in program reviews and concept review boards, providing model-based engineering support to government program managers on novel concepts.
  • Develop and validate simulation models using tools such as AFSIM, CAMEO, and other Modeling and Simulation tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers, SETAs, and government program managers to align simulations with real-world scenarios, CONOPs, and TTPs.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders across the Department of War, including USW R&E, CAPE, Joint Services, and DARPA.
  • Assist in developing processes, products, and training materials to ensure systems engineering and mission engineering are appropriately applied to existing and new projects.
  • Review key documents, including Project Execution Plans, and provide feedback as needed.

Requirements

  • 15 years of total experience, with 10+ years of practical systems engineering experience specifically within Modeling and Simulation (M&S).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a similar field.
  • Previous experience using AFSIM and CAMEO.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • 10-20% CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DAWIA Systems Engineering Certification.
  • DAWIA Project Management Certification.
  • Model-Based Engineering Certificates.
  • Master’s or advanced degree in engineering, math, physics, or a similar field.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $150,000–$200,000 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. QinetiQ US considers several factors when extending an offer, including the role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
