About the Role

The Lead Surgical Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring exceptional patient care and operational excellence within the surgical specialty. This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily surgical operations, including procedure scheduling, supply and equipment management, staff training, and communication across multidisciplinary teams. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and leadership, this role serves as a clinical and operational leader in the operating room, promoting teamwork, resource stewardship, and adherence to best practices while fostering a culture of collaboration and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and implements the patient care delivery system for specialty areas.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and the surgery team; coordinates plan of care with anesthesia and surgeon and surgery team.
  • Identifies/seeks experience that meets your learning needs and/or needs of the unit.
  • Maintains knowledge by self study, workshops, in-service and specialty certification.
  • Coaches and supports the development of staff working in concert with other Specialty Coordinators, Perioperative Educator and Perioperative Management.
  • Accesses future schedules and coordinates with physicians and sales reps for supplies, instrumentation and equipment needs.
  • Assists with coordination of both capital and routine service line expenditures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program in Surgical Assistant
  • Certification in one of the following: Surgical Assistant Certified (SA-C), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), Physician Assistant – Certified (PA-C), Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), or Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA)
  • Operating room technology, setting up trials and evaluations for new products
  • 5-7 years experience in a related field, including certified surgical technology
  • Certification in surgical technology or central sterile processing

Schedule

Full time (80 hours bi-weekly), 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. No weekends. No holidays.
