Lead Steward - Full Time
About the role
This position will work a variety of hours and shifts to ensure sanitation standards are upheld. The role involves maintaining work areas, equipment, and utensils in a clean and sanitary manner, training and developing Utility staff, scheduling staff, removing garbage, operating mechanical devices, adhering to cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting other departments.
Responsibilities
- Maintains work areas (kitchens, cooking preparation, etc.), equipment (cook stoves, grills, stove hoods, deep fryers, etc.), and utensils in a clean and sanitary manner and in accordance with OSHA and ServSafe standards.
- Trains and develops Utility staff to exceed established sanitation and cleanliness levels.
- Develops equipment cleaning schedules for fixed and movable equipment.
- Schedules staff for all shifts in all F&B operations.
- Removes garbage and trash, places receptacles in a designated area after cleaning and relining them.
- Operates mechanical devices designed to assist such as scrubbers and dishwasher.
- Adheres to proper cleanliness and sanitation standards as set forth by ServSafe.
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions in all kitchen areas and F&B areas: cleaning mats and other walking surfaces, walls, ceilings, & stainless steel.
- Carries or transfers by hand-truck, supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.
- Stocks serving stations with utensils.
- Maintains safe working conditions and practices in the kitchen and eating area.
- Affords assistance to other departments with their duties if & when time is available.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Understanding of OSHA rules and regulations.
- Familiar with MSDS sheets.

- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
