About the role

Founded in 1949, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is Southern Colorado's largest animal welfare organization. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, powered by over 250 dedicated staff members. We value compassion, collaboration, and service, all while prioritizing staff wellbeing. HSPPR is contracted to run the Pueblo Shelter and Animal Law Enforcement. We also operate a thriving Wellness Clinic providing affordable vaccines and spay/neuter services to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform HQHV spay/neuter surgeries for shelter, TNR, and community animals.
  • Lead rounds, design life-saving treatment plans, perform advanced procedures (like amputations and foreign body removals).
  • Respond to emergency hoarding intakes.
  • Collaborate with the team on areas of shelter medicine, HQHV spay/neuter, TNR, emergency procedures and dentals, or provide wellness services to the owned animals in our community.
  • Work independently and manage varied relationships to facilitate collaboration and cooperation.
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse team of professionals.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited veterinary medical college – DVM or equivalent.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • Three plus years of experience in a high volume spay/neuter clinic or shelter setting.
  • Three plus years of experience practicing veterinary medicine in an animal shelter, including surgical procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in clinical medicine and surgery.
  • Experience in animal welfare and shelter operations.
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently.

Pay

$125,000 - $140,000, dependent on experience.

Schedule

Based primarily at the Pueblo shelter campus, with at least three weekly shifts at the Pueblo campus. Additional shift(s) will rotate through Wellness clinics and the Colorado Springs shelter campus. Four ten-hour shifts. Regular schedule will include at least one weekend shift. Schedule may be subject to change based on organizational needs.
