Lead Senior Wind Hub Technician - SD2 (Wishek, ND)

About the role

The Senior Wind Hub Technician is a critical and active role responsible for maintaining optimal function and output at the wind site. This position involves daily work on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The technician partners and communicates with the Site Lead and Manager to execute contract requirements and timelines, ensuring alignment with GE excellence.

Responsibilities

• Work with site/hub leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements, including electrical and mechanical equipment used in GE wind turbine generators.
• Apply extensive understanding of variable pitch and speed turbines and converter parts.
• Read, understand, and explain schematics, drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
• Adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) processes and regulations, as well as applicable compliance requirements.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch and variable speed turbines.
• Assist in all areas of site operations as directed by the manager with minimal supervision, observing all safety requirements.
• Perform diagnostic analysis and generate plans for timely resolution of issues.
• Document all work performed using computer-based service reporting procedures.
• Work with and respond to GE’s remote operations center when necessary.
• Mentor peers and assist in all areas of site operations as directed by the manager.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
• 4+ years of wind troubleshooting experience and 1+ year in EHS, SQC, Lead role, or 5+ years of wind troubleshooting experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid driver’s license (must maintain).
• Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.
• Ability to handle repetitive weight of 50 lbs and climb towers up to 300 feet daily.
• Meet and maintain specified manufacturer weight limits (not to exceed 300 lbs including required gear).
• Ability and willingness to work in a range of environments, including industrial, manufacturing, and power industry facilities.
• Effectively prioritize work according to contract obligations.
• Ability and willingness to take initiative and work without direct supervision.
• Flexibility to work rotating shift schedules and on-call per site needs.
• Occasional overnights may be required per hub needs.

Desired Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical, Electrical, or Electronics field from an accredited college or university.
• Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronic field.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside the Wind Farm.
• Wind turbine experience.
• Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic experience.
• Experience using hydraulic power tools.
• Experience with heavy equipment required for facility maintenance, including working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
