About the role

Duties include disseminating guidance on regulations, providing procedural advice, enforcing security measures, implementing emergency plans, enforcing laws, conducting on-the-job training, assigning tasks, inspecting vehicles, issuing visitor passes, questioning visitors, and maintaining physical condition.

Responsibilities

  • Disseminate guidance on regulations in response to inquiries.
  • Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
  • Provide procedural guidance in response to security inquires.
  • Enforce the physical security plan to meet installation objectives.
  • Provide protection to the installation by ensuring adherence to procedures.
  • Implement emergency plans to protect life and property.
  • Enforce laws and regulations to maintain order.
  • Provides on the job training for employees.
  • Check on work in progress to ensure supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures are met.
  • Recommend training for team members.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees.
  • Control movement of personnel and vehicles by utilizing security check points.
  • Inspect vehicles to ensure proper search and seizure procedures are followed.
  • Determine length of the visitor pass to be issued based the on purpose of the visit.
  • Question individuals requesting entrance to the installation for access suitability.

Requirements

  • Conditions of employment: Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • One-year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Employee and prospective employee are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter, they must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary.
  • Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Qualifications

  • Recruitment and relocation incentives may be authorized.
  • Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service or have a break in service may be authorized.
  • Credit for prior non-Federal work experience and certain military service for determining annual leave accrual rate may be authorized.

  • Additional information about transcripts is Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes:1) Verifying identification through identification cards, badges, and automated records; 2) Inspecting containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and/or government vehicles; and 3) Exercising crowd control in situations that may become violent or unruly.

Pay

Salary negotiations for those candidates who are new to Federal service or have a break in service may be authorized.

Schedule
