Lead Security Guard

This position may require temporary relocation to other TONHC facilities: Sells Hospital, Santa Rosa Health Center, San Simon Health Center, Casa Grande, and San Xavier Health Center.

About the Role

Performs protective services guard duties for federally owned or leased buildings and property, protecting government equipment and material, and controlling access to Tohono O'odham Nation Sells Hospital. Work involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations, requiring a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent is required to wear a uniform. Call-back and emergency overtime are standard requirements, including assignments to second, third, or rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. The role operates independently with routine duties executed without direct instruction.

Responsibilities

• Distributes and balances workflow among employees, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks and maintaining records of work accomplished.
• Instructs employees in specific tasks, job techniques, and creates written instructions or reference materials.
• Provides on-the-job training to new employees following established procedures.
• Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, and directives, and answers questions from other employees.
• Monitors work progress, reviews completed work, and ensures adherence to deadlines and standards.
• Approves short-term leave for emergencies and resolves simple, informal employee complaints.
• Reports on employee performance, disciplinary needs, progress, and training requirements to supervisors.
• Makes recommendations concerning promotions, reassignments, and personnel actions.
• Patrols and checks locks, alarms, fences, gates, and other barriers to detect security breaches or trespassing.
• Controls personnel access by verifying identification and referring unauthorized individuals to control points.
• Relays messages, maintains logs, and dispatches personnel and equipment during emergencies.
• Monitors alarm systems, closed-circuit television, and communication networks.
• Protects incident scenes and relinquishes control to law enforcement or other authorities as needed.
• Detains offenders and informs them of their rights until authorities arrive.
• Assists in emergencies such as natural disasters, criminal acts, and medical emergencies.
• Maintains tour of duty and incident logs, reporting disturbances to supervisors or police as required.
• Provides emergency services to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• Three years of work experience in a related field.
• One year of supervisory experience.
• Current First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or must obtain within six months of hire.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and National FBI fingerprint check.
• Valid driver’s license with no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years (if required for the role).
• May require fluency in both Tohono O'odham and English based on departmental needs.
