Lead SCADA Engineer
Overview
Our client, a leading employee-owned engineering consulting firm specializing in power, renewable energy, transportation, and water infrastructure, is seeking a Lead SCADA Engineer to design, program, and commission SCADA and automation systems for utility and renewable energy projects. This role leads system integration efforts, develops SCADA communication architectures, and supports clients throughout project execution while mentoring engineering teams. The ideal candidate has a PE license, 7+ years of SCADA and automation experience, strong knowledge of RTUs, HMIs, industrial communication protocols, and utility-scale network architectures, with the ability to travel as needed.

Pay rate: $120,800 – $163,500

Responsibilities
- Design, program, install, test, troubleshoot, and commission SCADA and automation systems for utility and renewable energy projects.
- Create and maintain SCADA point lists, RTU programming, and HMI applications.
- Develop logic and custom applications to support complex automation and system integration requirements.
- Prepare complete design packages for SCADA communication networks and site network architectures.
- Ensure designs comply with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform detailed engineering evaluations, design calculations, and technical analyses.
- Develop plans, specifications, reports, and project documentation.
- Identify and recommend design improvements to enhance system quality, performance, and reliability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, technicians, and stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and technical support.
- Assist with project scheduling, task planning, and resource coordination.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to project teams.
- Support business development, marketing, and client engagement activities as needed.
- Travel to client sites for system implementation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 7+ years of experience in SCADA, automation, system integration, or related electrical engineering disciplines.
- Strong experience with SCADA systems, RTUs, PACs, and HMI development.
- Proficiency with communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and similar industrial networking protocols.
- Working knowledge of network architecture design, implementation, and industrial communication systems.
- Experience developing SCADA communication architectures for utility, renewable energy, or power industry applications.
- Familiarity with SEL-RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+, or similar automation platforms.
- Experience with HMI platforms and web-based graphical interface development; Ignition experience preferred.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, PuTTY, and SEL QuickSet.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Experience preparing engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet established schedules and deadlines.
- Experience mentoring or leading engineering team members preferred.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, procedures, and design best practices.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 15–20% as required.
- Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain before employment).
- Authorization to work permanently in the United States.
