Responsibilities

  • Leads the daily management and supervision of the respiratory care staff, both clinically and administratively.
  • Performs clinical duties including patient assessment, ventilator management, diagnostic evaluation and other respiratory care as needed.
  • Acts as an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge/expertise, and is a leader/resource to the healthcare team.
  • Recommends/coordinates scheduling of work assignments and daily priorities of staff.

Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred Master's Degree: Preferred Five years' technical experience with specialized knowledge in PICC, Peds, and/or NICU: Preferred Two years' leadership experience: Preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and Respiratory Care Practitioner(RCP) license: Required in CACardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification: Preferred Registered or Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care: Required Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential: Required Facility Specific License/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required

Essential Functions

  • Organizes department functions.
  • Administers all therapies, as ordered by the physician, according to the departmental policies and procedures.
  • Affirms that all pulmonary function testing is done as accurately as possible.
  • Assesses patients and recommends appropriate therapies/interventions.
  • Helps educate patients in regards to their illnesses or condition and the relationship of their therapy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of respiratory therapy practices, scope of practices, policies, procedures and techniques involved in providing comprehensive patient care.
  • Demonstrates understanding and proper use of all patient care equipment.
  • Ensures that the department has sufficient supplies and equipment to perform its assigned duties.
  • Organizes and directs staffing levels, billing procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepares and updates department policies and procedures in accordance with current standards and hospital policy.
  • Assists in emergency resuscitation, as required, by intubating such patients as necessary, but only if approved to do so as declared in policy statements (must be certified).
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate amount of supplies and equipment parts, bringing to the attention of the Supervisor any devices needing repair.
  • Implements infection control measures.
  • Cleans and assembles equipment as necessary.
  • Orients and trains new staff.
  • Completes performance improvement for the department.
  • Supervises substantially complex activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
