Salary: $40.28 - $64.45 hourly / $83,790 - $134,063 annually. This position is a Pay Band C11.

About the role

The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six divisions, including inpatient psychiatric care for civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, NMBHI serves over 250 inpatients/residential patients daily and 400 outpatient clients monthly.

The incumbent will provide nursing care to meet the needs of patients in the Adult Psychiatric Division/CARE, offering direction and guidance to direct care staff while implementing and directing all nursing activities toward common hospital goals.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all types of medications, including oral and injectable, to relieve anxiety, control behavior, and treat physical problems.
  • Perform various treatments ordered by physicians to ensure patients' optimal physical and mental well-being.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico.
  • Five years of experience relevant to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.
  • Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
  • Experience caring for the mentally ill and providing comprehensive nursing care.
  • Experience in the administration of all types of medications.
  • Licensed in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act (Section 61-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16.12.1 through 16.12.20 NMAC).

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a hospital and office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
  • Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable and sometimes violent behaviors in volatile situations.
  • NMBHI is a 100% Tobacco-Free/E-Cigarette-Free Campus; no tobacco or e-cigarette products are permitted on any part of the campus.

Pay

$40.28 - $64.45 hourly / $83,790 - $134,063 annually.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply.
