Salary: $40.28 - $64.45 hourly / $83,790 - $134,063 annually. This position is classified as Pay Band C11.

About the role

The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) provides care to New Mexicans across six divisions, including inpatient psychiatric care for civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the state’s largest behavioral health complex, NMBHI serves over 250 inpatients/residents daily and 400 outpatient clients monthly, supported by over 600 employees.

This role delivers nursing care to patients in the Adult Psychiatric Division/CARE, providing direction to direct care staff and leading nursing activities to meet hospital goals.

Responsibilities

  • Administer oral and injectable medications to relieve anxiety, control behavior, and treat physical conditions.
  • Perform physician-ordered treatments to ensure patients' optimal physical and mental well-being.

Requirements

  • Current or eligible license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, including temporary licensure for employment at a specific institution.
  • Five years of experience relevant to the essential duties of the classification.
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license and ability to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing (position is safety-sensitive).
  • Nationwide criminal background check (employment is conditional pending results).
  • Completion of Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.

Qualifications

  • Experience caring for individuals with mental illness.
  • Experience providing comprehensive nursing care.
  • Experience administering all types of medications.
  • Licensure in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act (Section 61-3-2 through 61-3-31 NMSA 1978 and 16.12.1 through 16.12.20 NMAC).

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a hospital and office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminals (VDT) and extensive computer/phone use.
  • Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable or violent behaviors in volatile situations.
  • NMBHI is a 100% tobacco-free and e-cigarette-free campus; no tobacco or vaping products are permitted.
