Core Functions
- Provides comprehensive nutrition assessment of patients’ nutritional needs.
- Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data using evidenced-based standards.
- Evaluates effectiveness of care plan and participates in communicating effectively as a member of the healthcare team to provide optimal nutrition outcomes.
- Provides pertinent information in the electronic medical record including plans of care and/or clinical pathways while meeting the requirements of regulatory agencies (TJC, CMS, State and Local Agencies).
- Provides nutrition education to patients, families, staff and other healthcare team members.
- Serves on system committees to participate in the development of teaching materials and/or in-service programs.
- Effectively evaluates the receivers' response to education.
- Provides leadership to the clinical nutrition team.
- Establishes and maintains proper patient care procedures with other members of the clinical nutrition team.
- Acts as a liaison between the clinical nutrition staff and other members of the healthcare team when necessary.
- Assists with program marketing through the development of excellent working relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Participates, develops, collects, and responds to results of continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities in clinical areas to improve the quality of nutrition outcomes.
- Provides coordination of projects and programs.
- Demonstrates proficiency in area of practice.
- Responsible for developing and providing training/educational resources to clinical nutrition staff.
- Ensures proper scheduling of clinical nutrition staff to maintain coverage to meet system and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess knowledge of nutrition and dietetics demonstrated through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or equivalent coursework.
- Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) based on academic and professional requirements as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Maintains current licensure as required by State law.
- Must possess a level of expertise typically achieved through three to five years of clinical experience.
- Must be able to function independently, effectively prioritize assigned patient load and have the ability to lead the clinical team in their daily functions as well as serve as a resource for issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous healthcare leadership experience.
- Additional certifications such as CNSC- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, CDE- Certified Diabetes Educator, CSP- Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition, CSR- Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition, CSO- Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition, CSG- Board Certified Specialist in Gerontology Nutrition, and CSSD- Board Certified Specialist in Sports Nutrition; Certified Clinical Transplant Dietician (CCTD) from the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization.
