About the role
The Lead Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) provides Recreational Therapy services, including assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic activity interventions, and discharge leisure planning. The role involves using individual and/or group activity interventions to promote positive behavioral, cognitive, social, emotional, or physical changes in clients. The Lead CTRS educates clients on healthy coping skills and available leisure resources to support post-discharge planning and involvement, ensuring services align with current standards of practice.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Recreational Therapy assessments and develop treatment plans.
- Implement therapeutic activity interventions for individuals and groups.
- Facilitate positive behavioral, cognitive, social, emotional, or physical changes in clients.
- Educate clients on healthy coping skills and post-discharge leisure resources.
- Provide discharge leisure planning and ensure adherence to current standards of practice.
Requirements
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program required.
- Certification by the National Certification Board (NCTRC) required.
- Two (2) years of clinical experience required; psychiatric experience preferred.
- Must be in good standing (evaluation/employment history, corrective action, etc.) for internal transfer consideration.
