Lead Radiology Technician - Full Time

About the Role

Under the direction of the radiologist, the Lead Radiologic Technologist performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. This role supervises Radiologic Technologist staff and coordinates daily operations within the Imaging department.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Radiologic Technologist staff, including developing and assigning daily schedules, monitoring work performance, and providing guidance for improved efficiency and quality.
• Coordinates and oversees the preparation of control and quality control/assessment tasks (QA/QC).
• Ensures the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
• Performs active inventory management and communicates with vendors for specialty stock items.
• Serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Radiologic Technologist students.
• Administers ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes under the direction of the Radiologist and AZDHS, including positioning patients, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
• Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
• Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices, adhering to ALARA safety principles.
• Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media and assesses factors that may contraindicate procedures.
• Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers and verifies procedure requests and pregnancy status when appropriate.
• Monitors patients and equipment during procedures, documents exam times, patient reactions, and reports concerns immediately.
• Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database.
• Provides evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare Acquired Conditions and hospital readmissions.
• Practices standard precautions and complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines to reduce hospital-acquired infections.
• Complies with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
• Reviews and revises the division’s policies and procedures manuals and protocols according to regulatory guidelines.
• Assures the development and administration of a Quality Assurance Program for the Radiology Division, ensuring compliance with DNV standards and state/federal regulations.
• Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) and other evidence-based behaviors for patient care.
• Demonstrates empathy and actively contributes to meeting the department’s Patient Satisfaction goals.
• Ensures timely completion of all licensure, competencies, training, and education requirements.
• Participates in continuous process improvement and attends scheduled department and team meetings.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS).
• Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
• American Heart Association BLS certification.

Preferences

• Education from an institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR).
• Previous experience as a supervisor or lead.

Special Position Requirements

• Exposure Category I: Routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
• Other potential hazards include exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances, and possible exposure to hostile individuals.

• Able to manage technical business equipment (e.g., phone, fax, computer).
• Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of patients and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
• Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
• Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
• Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
