About the role

We are seeking a Lead Protection and Control Technician who will lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems. This role involves performing advanced end-to-end relay testing, executing functional and scheme testing, troubleshooting and optimizing protocols, and mentoring junior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
  • Perform advanced end-to-end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
  • Execute functional and scheme testing: reclosing, breaker failure, advanced logic, and communication-assisted protection schemes.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize protocols including DNP3, Modbus, 8979, using tools such as Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
  • Develop and refine standardized commissioning and testing procedures.
  • Mentor junior technicians and oversee field execution for safety and quality.
  • Partner with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver world-class reliability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years field experience in relay testing, calibration, and substation commissioning without direct supervision.
  • Expertise in three-phase power systems, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
  • Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
  • Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
