About the role

The Lead, Program Management plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing various projects, primarily focusing on revitalizations and technical projects for Royal Caribbean Group's ships. This position requires a strong background in project management, leadership, and a commitment to delivering projects on time, within budget, and adhering to safety and brand guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively directs and drives ship technical projects to ensure they are completed within the prescribed time frame, budget, and meet all safety and brand guidelines.
  • Liaises with operating department representatives involved in the Revitalization of a ship, ensuring operational requirements and ship configurations are compatible with SQM and the company's way of working.
  • Manages vendors to ensure they meet the group's time, budget, safety, and brand guidelines.
  • Create strong links to marine operations and ship's chief engineers to ensure final plans and designs meet all operational needs.
  • Identify and communicate any restrictions or compromises due to budget or space limitations.
  • Develop cost reduction programs for projects.
  • Generate the project budget, including forecasting and planning, alongside the Program Manager(s).
  • Review and comment on project design proposals, feasibility studies, and construction plans as needed.
  • Audit existing plans and prepare detailed reports as necessary.
  • Visit vessels for familiarization projects and work being handled.
  • Stay current with technical research and projects development, evaluating new technology for use across the fleet.
  • Run test programs on new equipment in conjunction with ship personnel as directed.
  • Support planning, installation, and follow-up on all vessels as directed.
  • Assist current project managers where needed and act as a backup for projects that may fall into trouble.
  • Ensure health, safety, and occupational well-being of all workers during drydocking windows.
  • Communicate and collaborate at leadership levels to achieve the desired output of the project.
  • Develop and drive project plans to ensure on-time completion of the project.
  • Ensure a mutually aligned product at completion through the development and review of contracts.
  • Evaluate technical design to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Manage project budgets and implement cost-saving initiatives as needed.
  • Present and report on the health and status of venues to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Business Management, Industrial Engineering, Program Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience, with at least 2 years leading a team.

  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience in leading a small team of professionals.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, essential for clear and precise communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strength in communicating in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.

  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of accounting rules for expense and capital activities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, financial, and spreadsheet modeling skills.
  • Solid understanding of the working drawing process, including drawing, dimensioning, and detailing deck plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD system.

Education

  • Knowledge of CAR process: budget, approval, reconciliation, and reporting, AMOS, Niku, Lotus Notes Database, JDE, and Essbase.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, business periodicals, financial reports, legal documents, and government regulations.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Physical Demands

  • Sit, stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, and operate a PC.
  • Communicate, listen, compare variables, and assess information.
  • Regularly move about the office complex.
  • May climb, descend, lift or move up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Office location, and/or moving inside/outside the office.
  • A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard, dry dock, newbuilding, or offsite locations.
  • Personal protective equipment will be provided as needed in these situations.
