Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or trade school certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid and current State of Connecticut P-1 Plumbing License.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  • CT DPH Backflow Prevention Device Tester (DWBT) Certification.
  • Minimum five (5) years commercial or industrial plumbing experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a trade environment.
  • Possession of strong customer service and communication skills.

Job Summary

The lead plumber plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and functional healthcare environment and ensures the safe and efficient operation of all plumbing-related systems across the main campus and all affiliated buildings. This position is responsible for overseeing all plumbing-related operations, working collaboratively with Facilities Management leadership and other departments to assure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal codes and standards, as well as healthcare industry standards and requirements. The lead plumber is expected to respond promptly to issues and emergencies, and to diagnose and efficiently resolve them so as to minimize downtime and disruption to patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all plumbing related systems in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer specifications to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Performs routine inspections of plumbing related systems, equipment, and mechanical spaces to ensure proper operation and compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Leads and supports plumbing staff by assigning work, providing technical guidance, and ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Responds to plumbing failures or emergencies, taking prompt and appropriate action to restore systems and minimize impact to patient care. Communicates issues and resolutions to department leadership.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs in accordance with applicable guidelines, identifying and reporting deficiencies in a timely manner. Assures documentation of these activities is timely, accurate and complete.
  • Affords assistance in maintaining compliance with all applicable plumbing, health, safety, and medical gas codes, including documentation and inspection readiness.
  • Coordinates with other trades, contractors, and hospital staff to support projects, renovations, and daily operations.
  • Follows and maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards in accordance with hospital policies and procedures at all times.
  • Maintains and operates facility aquatics pools, including monitoring water chemistry, performing required testing, maintaining logs, and ensuring compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Pay

    Estimated: $71,592 per year.
