About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Physical Substation Designer to oversee high-impact transmission and substation infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead physical design execution for greenfield and brownfield substations supporting transmission and utility projects.
- Develop and review detailed substation packages, including general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, grounding, cable routing, and structural details.
- Coordinate design for AIS and GIS substations ranging from 34.5kV-765kV.
- Utilize AutoCAD and MicroStation for deliverables, support constructability reviews, and interface with engineers, project managers, and clients.
- Perform QA/QC, ensure compliance with industry standards, and review vendor drawings.
- Support field activities, mentor junior designers, and participate in estimating and planning.
Requirements
- 8+ years of substation physical design experience in utility, consulting, or EPC environments.
- Strong understanding of substation layout, equipment arrangement, grounding, and construction practices.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Bentley Substation (preferred).
- Knowledge of utility standards like NESC, IEEE, NEC, and client specifications.
- Experience leading teams and managing multiple projects is preferred.
