About the role
The Lead Substation Designer position is available in Leidos' Pittsburgh office and operates on a hybrid schedule, typically 2 days in-office and 3 days remote. The schedule may vary based on client needs.
Responsibilities
- Create substation design drawing packages and required documents for electric power substations ranging from 4kV to 500kV.
- Mentor junior designers and support remote office CAD workload as needed.
- Support other disciplines such as Protection & Control, SCADA, and Civil Structural.
- Perform drafting assignments on Protection & Control, SCADA, and Communication drawings, including Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, Control Building Layouts, Panel Front Views, Wiring Diagrams, and Interconnection Drawings.
- Work on Physical Electrical drawings such as General Arrangement, Electrical Plans, Electrical Elevations, Sections and Details, Foundation Plans and Details, Structural Details, Grounding Plan and Details, Raceway Plan and Details, and Equipment Vendor Files.
- Collaborate with other CAD leads in Leidos offices to manage remote office CAD workload.
Requirements
- Associate of Applied Science in Drafting and Design degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in drafting and detailing with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Knowledge of drafting standards, techniques, and procedures.
- Proficiency with vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
- Ability to create and modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with a high level of attention to details.
- Proficiency with Windows operating system environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Strong professional verbal and written communication skills within a team environment.
- Highly organized and efficient.
- Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience with file sharing, document management, and collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, FTP, SharePoint, etc.
- Ability to comprehend and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
- Experience with 3-D modeling in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) for Inventor.
- Knowledge of VBA and/or AutoLisp.
