Lead Phlebotomist
About the role
Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly. Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders.
Troubleshoots phlebotomy service concerns and coordinates daily workload assignments. Mentors new employees and ensures competency documentation is completed. Coordinates day-to-day operations and troubleshoots phlebotomy services. Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance.
Fulfills safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adherence to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.
Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently. Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution. Assists with department orientation and trains laboratory staff and students. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities

- Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) with expertise in all age groups.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, with additional emphasis on general computer and keyboarding skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills, with preference given to those with strong service orientation.
- Required tact, compassion, thoughtfulness, and common courtesy in interactions with patients, their families, the nursing staff, physicians, and coworkers due to the invasive nature of blood collection procedures.
- Clinical Laboratory experience including Phlebotomy is preferred, indicating a more advanced understanding of the field.
Requirements
- High School Grad or Equiv
- Technical/Vocational School
- Field Of Study Completion of a phlebotomy training program
- 1+ experience in advent health lab
- 2+ relevant healthcare experience

$17.11 - $27.38 per hour
