Lead Personnel Specialist

About the role

The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) seeks enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join its team. This position is open to retired State of California employees who are CalPERS retirees.

Responsibilities

• Perform the full range of personnel and payroll functions for assigned units/sections/branches.
• Meet all deadlines and work effectively with appropriate control agencies.
• Adapt to multiple responsibilities and changing priorities.
• Provide courteous and timely responses to internal and external customers.
• Solicit and consider internal and external input when completing work assignments.

Qualifications

• Experience organizing and establishing workload priorities in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to research and provide recommendations to upper management on a variety of Pay and Benefits topics.
• Attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.
• Knowledge of employment laws, rules and regulation; civil service laws, rules and regulation; as well as State and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the State Controllers (SCO) systems and processes.
• Professional and effective communication skills, both verbally and writing.
• Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• A commitment to the highest ethical standards of confidentiality.

Department Information

The Finance and Administration Directorate oversees sections managing Cal OES operations including budgeting, fiscal analysis, grants management, human resources, labor relations, staff recruitment, examinations, and organization and professional development. The Directorate is comprised of three sections: Administrative Services, Human Resources and Grants Management.
