About the role

The Lead Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor in the OBL provides administrative support duties and maintains daily clinic operations. This position requires the same responsibilities and qualifications as a staff RN but includes additional supervisory and leadership duties.

Responsibilities

  • Keep Director/Manager informed of any issues with patients, staff, or physicians.
  • Order departmental and medical supplies.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Monitor and maintain budget/spending in consultation with Manager/Director.
  • Monitor quality control standards (e.g., temperature logs, waived testing, drug sample logs).
  • Resolve less complicated patient, staff, and physician issues.
  • Assist with evaluating staff performance, reviews, and merit increase recommendations.
  • Report any associate non-compliance with approved policies to Director/Manager.
  • Monitor staff work schedules and PTO requests to maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Ensure referrals are appropriate and seen in a timely manner.
  • Assist staff as needed and provide case management for efficient patient care coordination.
  • Achieve quality patient outcomes and demonstrate clinical competence.
  • Participate in quality improvement unit activities based on unit focus/priorities.
  • Identify clinical learning needs of staff and ensure learning is achieved.
  • Ensure staff follows systems to monitor compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with Director/Physician and other disciplines/departments to resolve daily operational issues.
  • Ensure employee files are current and complete (e.g., ACLS, BLS, RN licensure, required education).
  • Orient and mentor staff into new roles, ensuring competencies are achieved within identified timelines.
  • Develop staff’s leadership skills, facilitating learning and growth.
  • Assist staff in resolving identified learning or performance issues.
  • Monitor flexing, skill mix, use of overtime, and per diem staffing.
  • Identify and/or participate in implementing cost-reducing or revenue-enhancing ideas.
  • Contribute to cost-effective utilization of supplies within budgeted expense.
  • Contribute to meeting budgeted salary expense per unit of service.
  • Ensure quality safety checks are performed in a timely manner.
  • Handle situations not covered by written or verbal instructions while maintaining staff/patient safety.
  • Convey importance and rationale of policies, procedures, and standards of care to staff and patients.
  • Resolve safety issues in collaboration with Manager/Director.

  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with UVVC policies, HIPAA, and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current active RN license without restrictions.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications.
  • 2+ years full-time experience in an acute care setting, Cath Lab/IR Lab, CCU, ICU, CVICU, or PACU preferred.
  • 2+ years of Radiology special procedures preferred.
  • Experience leading a team in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Conscious sedation experience preferred.
