About the role

Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, portable inpatient EEG's, ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) and Evoke Potentials.

Responsibilities

  • Operates neurodiagnostic equipment.
  • Trains and orientates employees and students.
  • Maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Enters patient and study information into the neurodiagnostic information system.
  • Reviews patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information.
  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities within the department and facilitates change.
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff.
  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues.
  • Assists with human resource responsibilities, including interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolving employee concerns, and improving employee morale.
  • Monitors inventory levels, labor productivity and assists with managing department resources.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in a Neurodiagnostic Tech role.

Qualifications

  • Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced knowledge in anatomy that includes vascular and/or cardiology.
  • Proficiency in a minimum of two of the following: EEG, EMG, LTM, IONM and EP.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Skills

  • Knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures to assist in facilitation of departmental accreditation.
  • Ability to work in environments potentially exposing to blood and body fluids or other unpleasant fumes or hazards.
