About the Role

This position involves overseeing medical services, staff management, and compliance with federal and state regulations at designated sites. The role requires fluency in English and Spanish, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and significant experience in nursing and management.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Develop medical clinic staffing schedules and assignments; provide solutions to resolve staffing gaps.
  • Train medical staff to ensure competence and compliance with program training requirements, including CPR, First Aid, BLS, and emergency response preparedness.
  • Validate completion of nursing duties, including assessments, charting, scheduling, observations, immunizations, and reporting.
  • Supervise and direct site medical staff to execute healthcare plans and treatment orders, including medication administration.
  • Communicate with pharmacies for prescription orders, verify accuracy, and remediate discrepancies.
  • Consult with leadership on policy issues affecting healthcare quality and contagious disease control.
  • Maintain adequate over-the-counter medication supplies and arrange proper disposal of unused/expired medications.
  • Document and reconcile controlled drugs per facility protocols.
  • Provide required facility documentation and reporting to meet Compass Connections, federal, and state guidelines.
  • Oversee and audit Medication Administration Records (MARs) for each child.
  • Arrange transport for children to healthcare appointments (e.g., doctor, dentist, therapy, counseling).
  • Participate in developing health and medical protocols for federal programs and scheduled meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of healthcare records in compliance with HIPAA and Compass Connections protocols.
  • Apply positive behavior management techniques and recognize signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Adhere to scheduled hours, including on-call availability, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment and implement safety protocols.
  • Perform and supervise nursing duties to meet or exceed guidelines established by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Supervise, direct, and train medical staff, coordinating services per state, federal, and Compass Connections policies.
  • Implement and monitor healthcare plans as prescribed by providers, applying best-practice nursing guidelines.
  • Complete accurate documentation per agency policies, regulatory requirements, and program timelines.
  • Review, write, and update medical protocols in collaboration with the Medical Services team.
  • Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required).
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of program; current BLS certifications (PALS preferred).
  • First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse and two (2) years of management experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Pass pre-employment and random drug screens, and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility and immunizations (MMR, Varicella, HepB, HepA, Tetanus, PPD; Meningococcal preferred).
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, lifting patients, stretching, and bending.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Respond sensitively to cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the service population.
    • Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and professionals.
    • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
    • Maintain emotional control and professional composure in a fast-paced environment.
    • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team without intensive supervision.
    • Maintain computer literacy and professional people skills.
