About the role

The Lead Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled professional and a valuable asset to a physician. They are an integral part of the healthcare team assisting in patient care management. The Lead will supervise the overall performance of the Medical Assistants of the office.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the performance of clinic MAs and front staff at the assigned location
  • Assists with quality improvement projects and ensures survey readiness
  • Serves as the Cerner EHR super-user
  • Serves as the point of contact and reports directly to clinic manager and clinic director
  • Performs all MA duties including:
    • Obtains patient vitals, home medication list, past medical, social, and family histories on EHR
    • Administers vaccinations and injections and maintains immunization records on CAIR
    • Assists clinicians with minor procedures
    • Answers telephones, schedules patients, and coordinates patient treatment plan referrals
    • Performs insurance verification and eligibility checks
    • Facilitates the full patient experience from check-in to check-out
  • Flexibility to work on some weekends
  • Follows Hospital and Department policies and procedures at all times, including but not limited to: Administrative Manual, Environment of Care, Human Resources, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethics
  • Attends, actively participates and completes in-services, training classes, mandatory classes, seminars/workshops, staff meetings, exercises and drills; reads all department communication and assigned materials
  • Provides excellent customer service and shows compassion to all patients, visitors and co-workers; seeks feedback to ensure all needs are met
  • Keeps manager and team informed of progress, problems, development and plans; interacts positively with co-workers
  • Accepts and performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1 year of medical assistant experience in the outpatient clinic setting
  • Current certification in Medical Assistant and CPR/Basic Life Support
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities (ability to lead a team of 3-10 staff)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology including medications
  • Fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin)
  • Knowledge of community resources and cultural sensitivity (preferred)
  • Computer proficiency (Cerner EHR and Excel knowledge a plus)

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and/or listen
  • Uses hands to do computer work, write reports, set up/clean/store equipment, and provide clerical support
  • Frequent phone use
  • Good vision to read schedules and enter accurate data
  • Good general health and emotional stability to carry out duties
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Use proper body mechanics when handling equipment
  • Standing, walking, and moving 50% of the day

Pay

Starting at $28.45–$42.63 hourly. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
