About the role
You will report to the department mechanical & piping engineering manager and project engineering manager(s). You will be responsible for mechanical and piping engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects, ranging from concept to execution design. Projects span a variety of industries, including Oil & Gas, Renewable Natural Gas, and Utilities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver projects across multiple industries, ensuring designs are compliant with UK regulations and appropriate standards and specifications.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
- Ensure the quality of engineered design solutions by checking and approving deliverables completed by competent persons.
- Complete mechanical and piping design within defined scope, time, and budget constraints.
- Communicate changes to scope or design and provide mechanical discipline input into change events, early warnings notifications, and estimates.
- Lead and participate in internal and external design reviews.
- Make independent decisions on issues and provide expert technical support within the mechanical and piping engineering team.
Requirements
- Hold an engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering to Degree level (BEng or MEng).
- Demonstrable experience as Lead / Principal Engineer on multi-discipline engineering projects.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent institute (preferred).
- Demonstrable experience working to engineering standards and specifications, including IGEM standards (preferred).
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering and their application in engineering and design projects.
- Understanding and appreciation of other engineering discipline responsibilities (Civil, Structural, EC&I, and Process).
- Experience producing or contributing to mechanical specifications, basis of design, scope of works, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, vendor technical bid analysis, design risk assessments, safety studies, and compliance assessments.
- Experience applying piping and vessel design codes to ASME and BS EN standards.
- Experience providing technical oversight for the delivery of mechanical equipment packages from external vendors.
- Experience working to the requirements of the Construction Design Management regulations, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), and/or Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations (PE(S)R).
- Ability to develop and present design packages that meet project scope.
- Ability to prepare for and chair design review meetings.
- Willingness to meet UK security clearance requirements (preferred).
Skills
- Strong time management skills with the ability to plan and organise your team and own activities.
- Understanding of dependencies between engineering activities within single and multi-discipline scopes.
- Commitment to a ‘one time right’ mentality in design delivery.
- Proficiency with common mechanical design software packages, including AutoCAD, Autodesk Plant3D, Navisworks, and Caesar II.
