Lead Mechanical Engineer - Power (Multiple Locations)

Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the Power global practice. This position focuses on the design and evaluation of mechanical systems for coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities, as well as associated support facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Front-end planning, preliminary design, and code analysis
  • Final design, including bidding document and specification preparation
  • Construction administration, including review of compliance submittals and resolution of construction issues
  • Interface with project managers, equipment suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers
  • Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules
  • Conduct and coordinate work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
  • Lead mechanical design projects related to natural gas and coal-fired generation facilities, including:
    • Air Quality Control Systems and Effluent Limitation Guideline Management
    • Equipment sizing and application
    • Hydraulic calculations and pump selection, sizing, and application
    • Pipe and valve selection and sizing
    • Pipe material selection (fittings, gaskets, etc.)
    • Pipe supports and pipe routing
    • P&ID development
    • Mechanical Equipment Condition Assessment and Lifecycle cost analysis
    • Plumbing (sanitary & potable water)
    • Pumping/piping for fluids or gases, including blowers, steam, and compressed air
    • Tank/vessel selection and sizing
    • Selection and location of instrumentation for pumps, vessels, and tanks
  • Devise new approaches to solve complex problems
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience
  • 7+ years of related mechanical experience; EPC project experience preferred
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments
  • Experience with Arrow, Fathom, or SmartPlant P&ID is a plus

Pay

$135,000.00–$210,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility for a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

Schedule
