Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of plant machinery.
- Check, maintain, repair, and replace motors, pumps, line shafts, and other equipment.
- Maintain preventative maintenance logs and records.
- Prioritize and complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Chief Operator, and Operators.
- Train new maintenance hires as needed.
- Use hand, bench, and machine tools for repair and maintenance tasks.
- Operate equipment such as drill presses, grinders, and perform welding tasks.
- Assist in drawing and pumping sludge, turning valves, and recirculating sludge.
- Design and fabricate parts as required.
- Research, order, and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and parts.
- Maintain plant structures and grounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repair.
- Four (4) or more years of experience in mechanical maintenance, including sewage treatment plant maintenance.
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.
- Proficient in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Understanding of relevant laws, ordinances, and safety precautions.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships.
- Capable of implementing programs and reporting progress.
- Problem-solving skills in a responsive environment.
- Ability to perform advanced technical or scientific tasks.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and exercise independent judgment.
- Skilled in equipment overhaul and restoration.
- Ability to exert strong physical effort for heavy work.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks involving balancing, climbing, crawling, and other physical activities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
